Caberfeidh is in a dynamic environment so responding to opportunities and potential risks and adjusting plans in response to market, climate and other factors is an important aspect of this role.

The Block Manager reports to the Stock Manager and is responsible for the day to day running of the block you will be assigned. This role offers you the opportunity to grow into a leadership role amongst the Caberfeidh team.

Caberfeidh is a 5,300 ha (effective) breeding and finishing farm located in the Hakataramea Valley, wintering approximately 30,000su and peaking at over 40,000su. It runs 400 Angus cows and 16,000 Headwater ewes and their replacements, as well as a large finishing and trading operation.

The ideal applicant will have:

 3+ years’ experience working as an experienced shepherd in New Zealand.

  • Experience with working with staff
  • An understanding of how to achieve high stock production levels.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • An understanding of the fundamentals around pasture management, including feed budgeting experience.
  • Competent with using technology.
  • A team player with a great attitude

This is a great opportunity for someone who is wanting to gain experience and will provide a steppingstones to further your farming goals. You will be exposed to managing a high performing ewe flock and grazing high quality forages which include Lucerne and chicory.

Only 15 minutes to town, a good quality house and work vehicle is provided with primary school bus at the gate.
